Bainbridge pediatric eye doctor
Your child need eye care if he or she is of school age, and even before that if there is any reason to suspect a problem with her or his vision or eye health. Here at Chagrin Valley Optometrists, we’re pleased to offer outstanding pediatric eye care.
How well your child sees can have an impact on his or her progress in school, as well as in social development. For that reason, all kids should come in for a visit with our Bainbridge pediatric eye doctor before starting school. The eye exam that is given is similar to the one you get. A visual acuity test, including reading from an eye chart, is administered. If your child is not yet old enough to read, that’s okay. We use a fun game as a substitute, which is just as effective in gauging your child’s vision. Our Bainbridge pediatric eye doctor also does a refractive assessment. Different strength lenses are placed in front of your child’s eyes in an effort to zero in on which ones give her or him the sharpest and clearest vision. If eyeglasses are in order, a prescription will be written to correct your child’s vision concern. As for eye health, amblyopia (lazy eye), and strabismus (crossed eye) are common in children. They are related to the way the eyes and brain are communicating, but fortunately the solutions are simple, effective, and non-invasive. Adult eye diseases cataracts and glaucoma may also appear in children, so a screening is done for those, as well.
The numbers speak loud and clear. Approximately 10% of children have vision problems that are undiagnosed and untreated. You don’t want your child to be one of them. Contact our office right now and schedule an appointment for your child with our Bainbridge pediatric eye doctor.
Chagrin Falls pediatric optometrist
If you are looking for an optometry practice where your child can receive excellent pediatric eye care, you should visit us at Chagrin Valley Optometrists. Our Chagrin Falls pediatric optometrist, either Dr. Ronald Jurcak for Dr. Jenna Lewis, can provide your child with important pediatric eye care.
It is important that children have their eyes examined at certain intervals to make sure that their eyes and visual system are developing properly. When you bring your child in to see our Chagrin Falls pediatric optometrist, our eye doctor will give your child a complete eye exam and determine if your child is having any vision problems. Often times, a child will not even think to tell his or her parents that they are having problems seeing at school, so the best course of action is to bring your child in for an eye exam, even if your child is not complaining of any vision problems. If a vision problem is found, it can usually best be treated and fixed when it is found early. Amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, is a vision condition that affects about 2 to 3 out of every 100 children. In this eye condition, the vision in one of the eyes is reduced because the brain has learned to ignore the signals coming in from the bad eye. Often times the visual loss caused by amblyopia cannot be corrected simply by wearing eyeglasses. It is important that amblyopia is successfully treated when a child is young, or the vision problem can continue into adulthood and cause permanent visual impairment in one eye. Symptoms of amblyopia may include: eyes that turn in or out; eyes that do not work together; poor depth perception, or poor vision in one eye. Amblyopia can be easily diagnosed by our eye doctor during a complete eye exam. Treatment for amblyopia may include eye exercises, patching of the eye, or possibly eye surgery.
